Connie Sue Overstreet was born April 8, 1953 and was raised by Ina Mae Bowen and Bonnell Bowen, who though not her birth father, raised her as his own and was the only father she acknowledged. She grew up with sisters Marie, Wanda, Teresa, Bernice, Erma and Cindy and brother Gary. She was the first of her siblings to enlist in the armed forces, an honor that two of her sisters followed. She proudly served in the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. While enlisted she met and married Jimmy Overstreet, and had two children, Jamie and Shannon. After her service to her country, she returned to Kenova, where she became one of the first female officers before moving to Mobile, Alabama to raise her children and followed a career in private sector security to retirement. She returned to Huntington where she continued volunteer work at the VA Hospital and spent time with her aging parents. She loved 1950's and 60's girl groups, Elvis and female country artists. Christmas was her favorite holiday with her home becoming a Christmas museum every winter and she could often be found singing Christmas songs in the summer- very off key- but with such joy. She loved her children despite their many faults and fought for them against the world, even when her children were in the wrong. She loved many dogs, none more than Izzy Bizzy and Wiggle Giggles. Connie was a cancer survivor and a survivor of multiple strokes that should've left her paralyzed. Connie died in her sleep on Sunday May 3rd, 2026. She died peacefully in her own bed, the way she wanted to go. Connie was a light in this world who will be sorely missed and always loved. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington by Pastor Tim Porter. Friends may call from 1 pm until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV, at a later date. Condolences may be made at www.regerfh.com.
