Donald Ralph Crum, 83, of Huntington, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on July 1, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Susan Wilson Crum. Don was born May 20, 1940 in Huntington and is the son of the late Gid and Dorothy Crum. He is also survived by siblings; Flora (Bob) Carter and David (Nancy) Crum; his three adoring children Kim (Arvin) Thompson, Kenneth (Lisa) Crum and Shane (Stephanie) Crum; grandchildren Tyler and Brock Thompson and Aaron Crum; special friends Debbie Wilkinson and Robert Tyree, as well as many other friends and family. Don graduated of Buffalo High School in Wayne County. He was a beloved and devoted member of Sunshine Free Will Baptist Church.
Don was a long haul truck driver for Landstar Trucking at Buck’s Trucks for 33 years when he retired at age 77 with over 4 million miles. Don joined Bucky, when he was starting the trucking company and it was just the two men and one truck. He loved to cook and was especially known for his pinto beans, fried potatoes and cornbread, which he would still make and deliver to the trucking office staff after he retired. After retirement, Don also enjoyed driving the Marshall University student shuttle bus to the VA pharmacy school and working with the Bodimer family at the Central City Farmer’s Market each summer.
Don was especially fond of the time he spent with his grandsons and was so proud of each. Don leaves behind a huge legacy. He was a wonderful story teller and had the most authentic sense of humor. He would command a room with his stories leaving everyone in tears of laughter. Don never met a stranger, making friends everywhere he went. The family is thankful for the special medical care given to him by his chronic care nurse, Madison Harris; Dr. Timothy Saxe; and nurse practitioner, Katy Cox.
