Elaine Williams Scaggs, 99, of Aiken, SC, formerly of Huntington, WV. passed away on October 8, 2025, at Hitchcock Square Senior Care Facility. A memorial service will be conducted on October 20, 2025, at 12:00 pm in the mausoleum in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Huntington, WV, with Rev. Eddie Gandy, Jr. officiating. Elaine was raised in Foster, WV; a daughter of the late James and Essie (Dolin) Williams. She is preceded in death by her husband Fletcher G. Scaggs, Jr., and brothers: Billy Williams of Foster, WV; James “Shirley” (Zelda) Williams of Cleveland, OH; Robert (Jeanette) Williams of Danville, WV; and niece Kay Williams Reicho of Ohio.
She is survived by the following loving nieces and nephews: William Scaggs, Altamonte Springs, FL; Karen (Steve) Williams, Lebanon, OH; Paul (Karen) Williams, Panama City, FL; Charlotte (Greg) Brown, Ridgeville, OH; Lennie (Tammy) Volpe of Ohio; and Rev. David (Candy) Scaggs, Westport, IN; 17 great or great great nieces/nephews.
Elaine previously worked in retail including the former Anderson-Newcomb as a buyer. She was renowned amongst her family and friends as a very accomplished decorator, had a flair for fashion, and a talent for creating arts and crafts. Her recollection was remarkable; at the age of 95, she wrote a story about her humble beginnings growing up on the William’s family farm at Foster Hollow. Both Elaine and Fletcher were proud of be involved in a scout troop in Huntington which formed lifelong friendships with many scouts from the Westmoreland area. She enjoyed sharing memories of the fun times and life events about the scout troop. In 1995, Elaine moved to Aiken, SC to join many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins who had settled there to work at the Savannah River Plant. Special thank you to Cousin Kathy Dolin and friend Sharon Duckett for their love and care for many years. Sincere appreciation to Hitchcock Square Senior Care Center and to Agape Hospice for their special care over the past few months.
Friends may visit with the family in the mausoleum of Ridgelawn Memorial Park for 30 minutes prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Reger Funeral Home, Huntington is in charge of the arrangements; additional obituary and condolences may be made at www.regerfh.com.
