Freeda Mae Crockett, widow of Monroe Crockett, 95, of Huntington, W.V., went to her heavenly home February 2, 2025 at her residence. Born to the late James and Frances Robertson Ramey on April 23, 1929 in Kiahsville (Wayne County), West Virginia, she was raised from the age of 3 by her Aunt and Uncle, the late Sam and Clara Pack. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, David Monroe Crockett, an infant grandson, Bowen Wesley Clark; six sisters, Ruby Marcum, Lucinda Dyer, Olive Thacker, Carolene Ramey, Joy Ann Burgess, and Lucreda New; eight brothers, Minuard, Paul, James Jr. , Clovis, Gordon, Doug, Bryce Ramey, and Howard Spence. Freeda is survived by her two devoted daughters; Joyce Clark of Huntington, W.V., and La Donna Rader of Ellicott City, M.D.; and two loving sons-in-law, Wesley Clark and David Rader; three grandsons and wives, Jason (Daphne) Clark of St. Inigoes, M.D., Brandon (Laura) Clark of Huntington, W.V., and Aaron (Nancy) Rader of Wilmington, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Emily Rader of Ellicott City, M.D.; great grandchildren, Brodie Clark, Isabella Rader, David Rader, Elizabeth Rader, and bonus great grandchildren, Martha Sol Iriarte, Trae, Katie Beth and Alexander Caudill. Surviving siblings, Myra Lewis and Brenda Lycans. Special nephews, Kenneth Dyer and Johnny McKenzie; and nieces, Dorcas Bomerita, Frances Napier, Lois McKenzie, and Patsy Brumfield.
Freeda worked as a cook at Westmoreland Elementary School and thirty years at Foster Memorial Home. In addition to her job she served many meals to family and friends. She was a faithful member of Philadelphia United Baptist Church. She served as secretary of the Helping Hands Ministry of the church and worked tirelessly on fundraisers such as making apple butter and rummage sales.
Freeda was an active member and former President of the Westmoreland Women's Club. She enjoyed the fellowship and many friends she made over her many years of membership. Freeda will be remembered as a beautiful, compassionate, Christian woman who loved her Lord and Savior, loved her husband and family fiercely. May she enjoy all the pleasures of her new mansion and her reunion with the love of her life, relatives, and friends who have been waiting for her to join them.
Funeral services will be conducted by Elders Don Napier and Glen Kiah Williamson at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington. Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, W.V. Friends may call from 12:30 pm until service time on Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home, Huntington.
