Gary Louis Borgmeyer, 77, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at Imogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia.
Born on Christmas Eve, 1948, in St. Charles, Missouri to Rolland and Georgiana (Bauer) Borgmeyer. He was the oldest of four children.
Gary lived a life marked by deep faith, quiet strength, and a profound love for God. He spent 17 meaningful years in a Trappist monastery, embracing a contemplative path before leaving to marry his beloved wife, Sandi Settani-Borgmeyer. Together, they shared a life filled with warmth and devotion until Sandi's passing, after which Gary returned to Huntington to be closer to family.
Gary cherished the rhythms of rural life. He loved staying busy and worked on a dairy farm and enjoyed hitching up two Belgian Draught horses, finding peace in tending his flower gardens and herbs. He especially loved working at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
Gary is survived by his brother, Msgr. Dean Borgmeyer, and his sister, Gail Borgmeyer, who were a source of comfort and closeness in his last days. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Neal.
Gary’s life was one of gentle humor, unwavering service, spiritual depth, and enduring love for those he held dear. When asked what he would like in his obituary, he said,“A sinner saved by grace.” May he rest in the peace he so often sought, surrounded by the grace that guided him.
Funeral Liturgy will be conducted by his brother, Msgr. Dean Borgmeyer at 11:00 am, Saturday January 3, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The burial will be a private ceremony at Woodmere Cemetery in Huntington, West Virginia.
