James Allen Vickers, 89, of Shoals, WV, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 4th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Jim was a graduate of Huntington High School and retired from working as an elevator installer and technician. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Wilma Jean Vickers; parents, Verna Courts Vickers and Earl Vickers; his brothers, Bill and Harold; sisters, Francis, Naomi, and Clara Belle; and three children, Ralph, Edward, and Tamara. Surviving are his daughters, Marcia Lynn Hunter (Jimbo) and Patricia Avey; four grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Hunter, Jamie (Amanda) Hunter, Matthew McCarty, and Tara Heffner-Simcik; ten great-grandchildren, Amanda, Brendon, Zach, Hannah, Aubree, Kylee, Paige, Kaden, Toby, and Harper; and one great-great-grandchild, Rylee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a devoted husband, as well as a father figure for several generations of children, for whom he cared deeply. He was a man of principle, strong work ethic, and honesty. He was deeply respected and loved by many. In his younger years, he sang in church choirs and sang tenor with quartets, in which he was often requested to sing “Beulah Land” and “Old Ship of Zion.” The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of St. Mary’s Emergency Room and Cardiovascular ICU Unit. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Michael Dillon at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 8th, 2025. Burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Reger Funeral Home on Monday, September 8th, 2025.
