Jimmy Lee McCoy August 27, 1947 – April 15, 2026
Jimmy Lee McCoy, 78, entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 15, 2026. Having walked this earth in faithful devotion, he now rests in the eternal peace promised to those who love Him. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
Born on August 27, 1947, Jimmy lived a life marked by quiet strength, steadfast faith, and deep love for God, family, and country. He honorably served his country as a proud combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, carrying with him a spirit of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering duty.
Above all, Jimmy was a man of faith. A devoted member of Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church in Huntington, West Virginia, he loved the Lord with his whole heart. His life was a testimony—not only in words, but in the way he lived, loved, and served others. He found peace in God’s creation, especially in the still peacefulness of the woods, where he often felt closest to the Creator he so deeply cherished.
Jimmy was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Gloria J. McCoy, and a proud and caring father to his children: daughter, Dr. Kristen (Tom) McCoy Epperly of Ashland, Kentucky; son, Mark (Jessica) McCoy of Milton, West Virginia; and son, Christopher McCoy of Columbus, Ohio.
He was a cherished grandfather to LCpl Ryan (Constance) Leighty of Jacksonville, North Carolina; James Mason Shively of Ashland, Kentucky; and Braylee McCoy of Milton, West Virginia.
He is also survived by his stepson, Ronald (Anita) Hatfield, and daughters, Lauren and Lilly of Roanoke, Virginia.
Jimmy leaves behind his beloved aunt and uncle, Kay and Jerry Cole; cousins Chet (Diana) Cole and family, and Chris (Sharon Jo) Cole and family.
He is also lovingly remembered by his niece, Angela Carol and family, his nephew, Aaron Webb and family; along with many cherished hunting companions, his treasured church family, and countless friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and steadfast presence. His faithful and cherished canine companion, Holly, was never far from his side and brought him much comfort and joy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Elizabeth “Cricket” Brooks McCoy; his father, James Earl McCoy; and his sister, Teresa Anne McCoy. No longer separated by time or sorrow, Jimmy has now been joyfully reunited with those who went before him—embraced once more in love, made perfect in the presence of the Lord. What was once parted on earth is now restored in eternity, where there is no pain, no parting, and no end.
Though our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice in the blessed assurance that Jimmy is now whole, healed, and home with his Savior. His life reminds us of the promise found in Christ—that death is not the end, but the beginning of eternal glory for those who believe.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.” — 2 Timothy 4:7–8
