Mayme Alice Caudill Chapman, age 98, of Huntington West Virginia died in peace at Wayne Healthcare Center on April 25, 2026 at 1 PM.
Mayme was a retired registered nurse and was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bess Carpenter; her husband Robert Chapman; sons Michael Chapman and Larry Chapman; her five sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her two daughters in law, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Mayme was born on April 15, 1928, in Leander, Kentucky. She graduated from Leander High School and then St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Huntington.
From 1949 to her retirement in 1990, she served as Head Nurse of the Nursery and later became and served as the first Head Nurse of Infection Control at Cabell Huntington Hospital. After her retirement in 1990, Mayme remained active with the St. Mary’s School of Nursing alumni, volunteered at St Mary’s Hospital, and loved working in her garden.
Mayme was a member of Madison Ave., Christian Church until her death. A graveside memorial service will be conducted at Ridgelawn Memorial Park by Pastor Tracy Mills on Friday, May 1 at 10 AM.
