Nicholas Patrick Mooney

Nicholas Patrick Mooney, 79, of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away September 27, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Mooney and Francis Mooney, as well as six of his siblings. Nick spent two years in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, being stationed ultimately in Germany. After returning to Huntington, Nick worked a few jobs until he found his calling with the Huntington Fire Department. He rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming a Captain and retiring after 26 1/2 years. Nick was dedicated to his fellow firefighters. As an avid photographer, he served as the arson photographer for the Huntington Fire Department. When not working, he enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and watching westerns. Nick is survived by his wife, Beverly Mooney, his children, Rebecca Chaney (husband Robert), Christopher Mooney (wife Nicole), and Nicholas Mooney II (fiancée Amy), and his two granddaughters, Alana Mooney and Molly Blake. Pallbearers will be members of the Huntington Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A Funeral Liturgy will be conducted by Monsignor Dean Borgmeyer at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Reger Funeral Home, Huntington.
