Roger Leon Weir, 85, of Huntington, WV departed his earthly home on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. He was born January 15, 1940 in Cuba, NY. Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Beverly Louise (Miller). He was the son of the late Leon Nathaniel and Mable Lord (Thompson) Weir of Friendship, NY. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Nathan Weir of Portville, NY, and Loren Weir of Friendship, NY. He is survived by a sister, Velma Hills of Clearwater, FL, and brother, Donald Weir of Friendship, NY. He is also survived by his oldest son, David (Debra) of Roanoke, VA and their sons, Benjamin and Nickolas; Daniel (Kathy) of Charlotte, NC and their sons, Mitchell and Matthew; and his daughter, Lisa (Don) Davis of Auburn, KY. Roger served in the United States Navy as a Torpedoman aboard the U.S.S. Rich. A training accident during his service on the U.S.S. Rich and subsequent surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation was the catalyst for a career in prosthetics. He worked as the Chief of Prosthetics & Sensory Aids at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV and retired after 28 years of dedicated and decorated service to area veterans. Roger was a long time member of Westmoreland Baptist Church. Roger had an adventurous spirit and pursued many hobbies and activities. He was a backpacker, a caver, a hiker, but his passion was competitive shooting. He was a Territorial Governor with the Kanawha Valley Regulators. He also was a Life Member of the NRA, a Life Member of the Ohio Gun Collectors Association, a Life Member of the Single Action Shooters Society, a Life Member of the Huntington Rifle & Pistol Club, and the Northeastern Kentucky Fish and Game Association. He was well known in the shooting community by his shooting alias, Capt. Hook. Roger was well read in a variety of topics, and he could sit for hours to “chew the fat” much to the chagrin of his children who sometimes had to sit for hours as the conversations droned on, but one things was constant…once you met him, you never forgot him. He loved a practical joke and had a laugh that was loud and boisterous. His children frequently remarked that if they ever lost him in a store or crowd they only need listen for his laugh to find him again. In lieu of flowers, friends of the family are requested to make a donation to the Herschel “Woody” Williams Fisher House at the VA Medical Center complex in Huntington.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm by Pastor Tim Porter on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from noon until service time at the Reger Funeral Home. Veterans rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova.
